Lynx Fever Takes Hold After 4th WNBA Championship

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For Minnesota Lynx fans, this fourth WNBA championship is very special.

Adam Johnson, who went to the University of Minnesota, says he's never seen Williams Arena -- affectionately nicknamed "The Barn" -- rock like it did Wednesday night.

"Energy was high the whole game, standing up and down, cheering music was blaring. It was good," Johnson said. "It was a lot of fun, packed, every seat was taken."

The third venue this year for the Minnesota Lynx proved to be a charm, having played at Target Center and then Xcel Energy Center.

Lynx Fans say they can never get enough of this winning franchise. The team has won the championship in 2011, 2013, 2015 and now 2017.

"I'm proud of them. I've followed them on and off the last few years, and it seems like we win every other year, and I'd like to make it every year," Johnson said.

The Lynx continue to amaze, and add fans with each Championship run.

There are some fans wondering why there is not more of what we call "Lynx Fever," especially after winning a four titles.

Fans we spoke with say all it takes is coming to one game. They say the excitement of the game is enough to make you a life-long Lynx fan.

The Lynx and their fans had quite the parade Thursday night.

It began at the corner of 12th Avenue and University and ended at Williams Arena, where the title was won after a hard fought game of the L.A. Sparks. The Lynx ultimately made "The Barn" their home while Target Center was undergoing renovations and Xcel Energy Center was unavailable.

"It's outstanding, unbelievable, remarkable. Indescribable actually," said fan Kristal Hall.

And it's a dynasty -- the Lynx have now won titles in odd-numbered years: 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017. The only difference in celebrating this title as opposed to the 3 before it, was the parade route was a little different. Instead of Target Center, it ended at Williams Arena where fans were still reliving Wednesday night's thrilling Game 5 win.

"It seems we make everywhere our home. And we keep winning so that's good. Our house is everywhere," said season ticket holder Susan Schierts.

And for girls like Morgan Johnson, who wants to be a basketball player when she grows up, it's something she and her family won't forget.

"There were these big confetti guns that were shooting confetti everywhere. It was really cool," said Morgan.

Close to 5,000 fans once again made their way inside the Barn.

"We love these guys. They are the best. They are the best," said a Lynx fan.

A celebration they and the team are now used to- but one that never gets old.

"This is amazing. I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. I'm glad we're able to make you proud each and every year so thank you for coming out and supporting us," said Seimone Augustus as the crowd cheered her on.
