Lynx Acquire Center Sylvia Fowles In Blockbuster Trade

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A source told WCCO that the Minnesota Lynx has acquired center Sylvia Fowles, considered one of the best low-post players in the league, in a three-team trade that also includes Atlanta.

The Dream will send center Erika de Souza to Chicago. Damiris Dantas, Reshanda Gray, and Minnesota's first round pick in 2016 are headed to Atlanta. The Lynx will also have Chicago's 2016 second round pick.

Fowles declined a contract offer from Chicago in September. She requested a trade and has sat out the entire season waiting for it.

A source said the Lynx had been trying to acquire her all offseason, but Chicago wasn't interested in anything Minnesota wanted to offer. When Atlanta entered the mix, it was finally enough to make the move.

Fowles had played her entire career with Chicago after being taken second overall in the 2008 draft. She was teammates with Seimone Augustus at LSU.

With room on the roster, the Lynx also agreed to a deal with former Gophers forward Shae Kelley, according to a source. Kelley was drafted by the Lynx and was one of the team's final cuts in training camp. Now she'll be back.
