Luminary Loppet Lights Up Lake Of The Isles

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The beautiful Luminary Loppet drew thousands to Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis Saturday night.

Volunteers created 1,200 ice luminaries that lit a beautiful path.

Organizers of the City of Lakes Loppet announced earlier this week that it would be a walking-only event because there wasn't enough snow on the lake.

As disappointing as that may be, it did allow for more people to participate.

Organizers expected more than 7,000 people to attend.

A more unusual event was held earlier in the day, when teams of six competed in a head-to-head competition on a 25-foot long, hand-crafted ski (see the video above).

It's a new event this year, and it took a lot of coordination to keep from crashing and falling over.

The prize is also a bit unconventional -- teams competed for a giant Pearson's Salted Nut Roll.
