Local Music Tap: The Paper Days To Release 'Falling Is Easy' @ Icehouse

Fun fact: there aren't too many bands you can both listen to – and drink.

Confused? Well, Minneapolis-based The Paper Days recently teamed up with Day Block Brewing and created Paper Days Pale Ale, which is a beer designed by the band.

That's just … cool. Right?

OK, but more importantly, the young five-piece contemporary folk band is starting pick up some steam in the Twin Cities and now they plan on releasing their premiere album, "Falling is Easy", at the Icehouse this weekend.

For a bit of background: The band formed in 2013 when the members – then students – met at the University of Minnesota. Lead vocalists Madeline Ramirez and Scott Schmitz started the core of the band by writing songs, and soon Andy Lonning (accordion), Mikhail Schee (bass) and Erik Schee (drums) joined and the rest was history.

They released an EP, "Northern Sky", the next year at the Aster Café. Since then, the band has performed around the cities and headlined at the 7th Street Entry and 2015 Holidazzle Festival.

This year's "Falling is Easy" – a 9-track album -- looks to be a honing in on their craft, featuring rich harmonies and creative instrumentation.

The album release is scheduled for the Icehouse this Friday, Jan. 15, with The Heavy Set sharing the bill. Doors open at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
