Local law enforcement share condolences for fallen western Wisconsin officers
UPDATE: The fallen officers were identified Monday by the Barron County Sheriff's Department: Chetek PD's Emily Breidenbach, 32, and Cameron PD's Hunter Scheel, 23. What follows is a revised version of the original story.
CAMERON, Wis. -- Local law enforcement agencies are sharing messages of support after two western Wisconsin police officers were fatally shot Saturday afternoon while conducting a traffic stop.
The shooting happened near Cameron, Wisconsin, about two hours outside of the Twin Cities. Investigators say Chetek PD's Emily Breidenbach, 32, and Cameron PD's Hunter Scheel, 23, pulled over 50-year-old Glenn Perry for a warrant and a welfare check someone called in for a report of "disturbing behavior." Perry was hospitalized and later died. It is still not clear what led to gunfire being exchanged.
Police departments, sheriff's offices and other authorities in both Wisconsin and Minnesota have been sharing condolences on social media for the fallen officers.
