Local Food Trucks Enjoys All-Star Game Boost

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Major League Baseball celebrates stars of the past and future during the All-Star Game.

But the big leagues are moving beyond peanuts and Cracker Jacks, putting the spotlight on five up-and-coming Minnesota chefs.

One of those chefs, Brian Stansberry, is a local guy. His company, Flavor Face, is bringing flavor to the mid-summer classic.

"It was a phone call at 9:30 a.m. on a Saturday," Stansberry said.

That phone call from the MLB would change the trajectory of Stansberry's career.

"We're totally geared up and totally ready to slide into the All-Star Game," he said.

The invite to be an official food truck for the ASG is a dream come true for this California-born, Minnesota-raised executive chef.

"I just want to share my passion and share the flavor," he said.

Stansberry has been sharing his cuisine for years. The former executive chef at Augsburg College has prepared private dinners for Bob Dole and Jesse Jackson.

He also had his own restaurant in Northfield, but he says nothing compares to this opportunity. His food truck has all the comforts needed to create his specialties.

"Everything's polished, all equipment is in working order and we're ready to go pour some flavor," Stansberry said.

His meatball on a stick was a big hit; ground beef prepared with milk-soaked bread crumbs, herbs and garlic

"We stuffed it with spaghetti," he said.

Stansberry says without the MLB, he could never have realized his dream.

"We're hoping to make some magic and we're hoping to create some smiles," Stansberry said.

Good food and good company make this experience one Stansberry will never forget, especially having celebrity Chef Andrew Zimmern work out of his food truck.

"It's the culinary passion weapon of all time," Zimmern said.

Creating a market for Flavor Face is what Stansberry hopes to do. He will actually have two food trucks when it's all said and done.

One will be left here for his fans in Minnesota, and the other will head to California to continue his dream of spreading flavor across the country.
