Local Artists Using Autumn Leaves To Honor Flip Saunders

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Local artists are creating something big to honor Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders.

Saunders died one week ago after complications from a four-month battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Artists with a branding agency known as "Ubergrun" are using autumn leaves to create a large image of the Wolves' logo with the hashtag "For Flip."

People can go check out the giant tribute on Monday at Nicollet Island in Minneapolis.

"We realized nothing in nature ever really passes. It changes form and we thought this was fitting for the occasion. He was a great man who did an amazing thing for the community for the team," Artist Bjorgvin Saevarsson said.

Monday night before the Timberwolves' home opener, the Wolves plan to show a video featuring former teammates, coaches and other basketball colleagues honoring. WCCO's Mark Rosen will also be part of that video tribute.
