Litchfield Man, 58, Shot In Leg While Deer Hunting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 58-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot while hunting in central Minnesota Sunday afternoon, according to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities received a report of a hunting accident at about 4:44 p.m. Sunday. The initial information was that a person had been shot in the leg while deer hunting in rural Litchfield Township.

Officers responded to the 23200 block of County State Highway 1, and a Life Link Medical Helicopter was called to the scene as well.

The man injured in the hunting accident was identified as Dale Verner Fenrich of Litchfield. Authorities say Fenrich is the 2nd District Commissioner of Meeker County. He was airlifted from the scene to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say the incident remains under investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Wright County Sheriff's Office, but the shooting appears to be accidental.
