List Of Macy's Stores Likely For Upgrades Doesn't Include Nicollet Mall

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Macy's has unveiled a list of stores it plans on targeting for upgrades, a move which some say could give a better idea of which stores are among the 100 it announced it will close next year.

In August, the department store confirmed it was planning on shuttering stores across the country.

Minnesota has 11 locations, predominately inside shopping malls. According to Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, the locations in this state that Macy's considers among their "top stores," and candidates for upgrades like high-end offerings, enhanced technology and cosmetic improvements, are the stores at Mall of America, Ridgedale and Southdale Center.

The Macy's on Nicollet Mall in the old Dayton's building is not on that list. As reported previously, Macy's did say it plans on "examining opportunities" for four large flagship stores in various downtown areas, including the one in Minneapolis.

The 100 closings represent about 15 percent of the total number of Macy's stores nationwide, and will result in the loss of jobs early next year.
