Light Rail Derails In Downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A light-rail train derailed in downtown Minneapolis late Thursday morning, disrupting service for almost nine hours.

Metro Transit officials say the derailment happened at about 11 a.m. north of the Government Plaza Station.

They believe the northbound Blue Line train came off the tracks when it hit a utility box lid that wasn't secured properly.

Green and Blue Line service was stopped between U.S. Bank Stadium and Target Field for hours.

Metro Transit says crews finally moved the train off of its track at about 7:20 p.m., and service resumed about 15 minutes later after an inspection of the tracks.

Buses served as replacements for the trains during the disruption.

No injuries were reported in connection to the derailment.
