Learning The Basics With The St. Paul Curling Club

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- All this week, we're embracing the cold and having some winter fun. One sport that's been growing in popularity in recent years and is being played by more and more groups is the Olympic sport called curling.

You may be familiar with it because of the flamboyance of the Norwegian team's unique pants.

Edward Moody reported live from St. Paul on Wednesday, and got some tips on the in's and out's of the sport with Jim Dexter, manager of the city's Curling Club.

Dexter explained that the point of curling is to get the rocks from one end of the rink to the houses at the other end.

Moody asked what the point is of the people seen brushing the ice with brooms, and Dexter explained they are the sweepers, and their goal is to alter the ice in front of the stone as it's moving. They can create less friction on the ice field with those brooms.
