Le Sueur County Man Charged In Fatal Head-On Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Le Sueur County man is facing charges after a head-on crash that left a young woman dead.

Modesto Godinez Domingo, 24, has been charged with three counts of criminal vehicular homicide, one gross misdemeanor charge of DWI, one gross misdemeanor charge of driving after cancellation and one misdemeanor charge of failure to stop for collision with an attended vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.

The crash occurred on May 28 on Highway 99 near County Road 140. Domingo, driving a Volkswagen Jetta, crossed the center line, hitting an Acura Integra driven by Alison Mackie of Winthrop.

Mackie died at the scene and Domingo was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester with serious injuries.

Prior to the head-on crash, Domingo hit a vehicle stopped at a stop sign before driving off. The woman driving the vehicle said Domingo hit her vehicle as he was going through the stop sign, and when she exited her vehicle to speak to him, Domingo pulled away.

Authorities at the scene obtained a Mexican license from Domingo bearing the name Jamie Morales De La Cruz, the criminal complaint states. Police used a mobile fingerprint scanner to properly identify Domingo. His actual license was cancelled at the time of the crash.

According to the criminal complaint, authorities responding to the scene of the crash smelled alcohol on Domingo. They administered a breath test and Domingo blew a .222 BAC.

The complaint also states that Domingo had three prior DWI arrests, with convictions for misdemeanor DWI in 2013 and gross misdemeanor DWI in 2014.
