Lawyer Wants Murder Conviction Overturned For Trevino

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The lawyer for a convicted murderer was back in court Thursday to fight for his client.

Jeffery Trevino was convicted in October of 2013 of killing his wife, Kira Steger, and dumping her body in the Mississippi River.

Trevino's attorney was in front of a three-judge panel at the Minnesota Court of Appeals to ask for a reduction in Trevino's 27-year sentence, as well as a reversal of the conviction and a new trial.

His lawyer claims the jury did not get accurate instructions in the case.

The court now has 90 days to issue a ruling.
