Lawmakers Looking To Ban Gun-Shaped iPhone Cases
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Lawmakers in Minnesota are looking to ban gun-shaped iPhone cases.
Reps. Joe Atkins (DFL-Inver Grove Heights) and Dan Schoen (DFL-South St. Paul) will introduce a bill Friday that would nix the manufacture, sale and possession of gun-shaped cell phone cases in Minnesota, according to a press release.
The cell-phone cases made recent news after U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, of New York, urged online retailers to stop selling them.
He called the cases "disasters waiting to happen," because when people wear them, it looks like there's a gun sticking out of their pocket, with no orange markings.
Amazon has already agreed to stop selling them, according to a New York Times report.
The Minnesota ban would be introduced to the Legislature next spring.
In the meantime, the bill's authors are urging retailers to stop selling these cases and to inform consumers about the dangers they pose.
