Larpenteur Avenue Bridge Construction To Take Place Overnight

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Unexpected issues with the slide system used to put the Larpenteur Avenue Bridge have caused work to take place overnight on Thursday, July 10.

MnDOT started using hydraulic jacks to slide the 3.5 million pound bridge beams into the permanent location on Wednesday.

While sliding the bridge, crews ran into issues with the system. Crews were forced to make adjustments at every push, which delayed construction.

So to not delay the process any further, work will be conducted over night Thursday.

MnDOT officials expect work to be completed overnight and for I-35E to reopen by 5 a.m. Friday.

The bridge slide is part of the I-35E MnPASS Express Lane Project.
