Laporte Man Dies In Deer Hunting Accident

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (AP) — A 50-year-old man has died in an accident on the opening day of Minnesota's firearms deer season.

The Mahnomen County sheriff's office says Paul Scholl, of Laporte, was shot while coming out of his deer hunting area about 16 miles southeast of Mahnomen in northwestern Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.

The accident was reported about 5:30 p.m. The sheriff's department says in a statement that Scholl's two brothers-in-law picked him up and met up with ambulances from Mahnomen and Naytahwaush.

Scholl was pronounced dead at Mahnomen Health Center. His body was taken to Grand Forks, North Dakota, for an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation.
