Landowner Asks For Reroute Of Lake Superior Hiking Trail

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A private landowner, fed up with disrespectful hikers, is forcing a reroute of the Lake Superior Hiking Trail.

The landowner gave permission for the trail to go through his land between Gooseberry Falls State Park and Blueberry Hill Road.

But, he said, as the trail became more popular, more hikers didn't respect the land.

He said the final straw was when a group of hikers harassed a friend he was allowing to hunt on the land.

The Superior Hiking Trail Association said it doesn't get a lot of complaints from private landowners.

The trial is being redirected onto the nearby Gitchi Gami State Trail.
