Lakefield Company Recalls Gas Fireplaces Due To Explosions

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Lakefield, Minn. company is recalling 22 gas fireplace models due to the risk of explosions.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Hussong Manufacturing is recalling their direct-vent gas fireplaces and gas fireplace inserts that use the American Flame-brand main control modules.

The fireplaces - sold under the names Kozy Heat Fireplaces, Ambiance Fireplace and Stellar Hearth Products - were made between Oct. 2009 and April 2013.

The company received nine reports of explosions due to prematurely-released gas, which caused two instances of abrasions and some minor property damage.

Consumers should stop using the products, turn off gas to the units and contact the place of purchase or Hussong Manufacturing. The ignition boards will be replaced for free.
