"Lake Chipotle" makes triumphant, yet brief return to south Minneapolis parking lot

MINNEAPOLIS – Mother Nature is getting rid of some of our recent snowfall, briefly refilling one of the most celebrated, and most annoying, of Minnesota's 10,000 lakes.

"Lake Chipotle" is an enormous puddle that famously formed last spring outside the Chipotle restaurant off Hennepin Avenue and West 26th Street in the East Isles neighborhood.

Our abnormally-warm weather means the fake lake started to thrive again Tuesday – to the delight of folks on social media.  

However, the iconic lake was drained Wednesday afternoon.

"We appreciate that tourists still flock to 'Lake Chipotle' despite the weather related challenges in this parking area," said Chipotle Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Laurie Schalow. "Infrastructure work to improve the site and expand the shoreline will be complete in the coming months."
