75,000 Ladybugs Let Loose Inside Mall Of America

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Children released 75,000 ladybugs Thursday inside the Mall of America's Nickelodeon Universe.

It wasn't a prank.

The bug launch was part of an Earth Day celebration. The ladybugs act as a natural pesticide, protecting the park's tree from pests.

The kids that helped release the bugs were from Fraser, Minnesota's largest provider of autism services.

The children scooped up the bugs in bunches and placed them on trees and other plants in the indoor amusement park.
