La Quinta Says It Knew About Wall Issue Before Collapse

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- La Quinta Inn & Suites released a statement Wednesday saying it was warned that a wall at its Bloomington hotel was in need of repairs before it partially collapsed.

No one was hurt, but dozens of guests were evacuated and the hotel was damaged Monday when a section of cement stucco fell from the 14th floor's exterior.

On Wednesday, the Bloomington hotel said that it recently became aware of "cracking" on the building facade and promptly hired an engineer. A meeting was planned for Monday, but part of the facade fell before repairs could be made.

"La Quinta responded to the façade issue at our Bloomington hotel location by quickly evacuating the entire hotel to ensure guest safety and to begin an investigation to determine the extent of the façade problems. We are very happy that no one was injured and that we were able to relocate our guests to accommodate their needs," La Quinta said.

La Quinta says it is now reviewing the situation and will make necessary repairs to safely reopen the hotel to guests.
