Kylie's Kids: Zack, 15, Fighting Ewing's Sarcoma

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Freshman year of high school is all about new classes and new friends. But Zack had to deal with a new challenge -- fighting cancer.

Zack found out he had Ewing's Sarcoma only a month into his freshman year of high school. But, as we found out in this week's Kylie's Kid, his classmates weren't about to let his projects go unfinished.

Like any 15 year old, Zack has a hobby he love. His particular hobby is racing and crashing drones and trucks.

"Most people want to flip the throttle up so it goes really fast. That's the one thing you don't want to do you want to take it nice and easy so it doesn't fall and go out of control," he said

Zack was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in October.

"It's in my shoulder and also spread to my lungs also," he said.

While he didn't have a lot of time to make new friends, he definitely made an impact in woodshop class.

"I was starting to build a table and in the middle of it. I didn't come back, so my classmates finished it for me," he said. "It was pretty cool because I didn't really know anyone in my class and they told me, 'we're going to finish it for you, you're table, for you' and I'm like 'OK'.'"

What he didn't expect was the result.

"I'm like, wow, they actually finished it and participated, which is pretty cool," he added.

Now, even though summer vacation is just beginning, Zack is all ready to head back next year.

He's also excited because he only has one round left of chemo.

"Yeah, I'm ready for it to be done," he said.
