Klobuchar Adds Personal Touch To Political Profile In Memoir

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is burnishing her political profile with personal touches in a new memoir.

The book is called "The Senator Next Door" and is set to go on sale Aug. 25. The two-term Minnesota senator tells stories of childhood trips from her home in Plymouth all the way to the Hennepin County Attorney's office and Washington.

Klobuchar writes that she was initially considering a run for Minnesota Attorney General until the Senate seat opened in 2006. After months of weighing a run, she finally decided to enter the race while ice fishing on Leech Lake.

It also touches on legislative accomplishments like lining up funding to replace the fallen Interstate 35W bridge and boosting pool safety after a Minnesota girl's injuries from a drain later proved fatal.
