Kids See Santa, Learn Train Safety At 'Operation Lifesaver' Event

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's called Operation Lifesaver and its focus is reducing the number of accidents along railroad tracks.

The Minneapolis non-profit teamed up with the North Pole Express on Sunday. Kids had the chance to go inside the train at Union Depot in St. Paul and ride it to the North Pole for a quick trip to see Santa.

Along the way, kids of all ages learned about how to stay safe around trains.

"Kids at any age are interested in trains, they want to see them and find out about them. It's important that we make sure to explain to them that as excited as you are that we keep our distance from those tracks," Sheryl Cummings, executive director with Minnesota Operation Lifesaver, said.

Passengers enjoyed hot cocoa and a holiday treat after the ride.
