Key Witness In Trial Of Accused Cop Killer Arrested

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A key witness in the trial of the man accused of killing a Mendota Heights police officer is now also in jail.

An arrest warrant was issued for 28-year-old Jacob Hayes after he was missing for the past two weeks. Police say he is a "critical witness in the case" against Brian Fitch Sr.

Hayes turned himself into authorities last night.

Fitch is accused of shooting and killing Officer Scott Patrick in July.

Six jurors have now been selected in the trial -- 14 are needed to move forward.

The judge in the case hopes to finish jury selection this week with opening statements scheduled for Tuesday.

The defense has warned potential jurors that prosecutors will likely show the dash cam video of Patrick being shot and killed.
