DFL Party Head Claims Daudt Used Position To Get Out Of Debt

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The head of Minnesota's DFL Party, Ken Martin, said the Speaker of the House used his powerful influence and friends to get out of debt.

Republican Speaker Kurt Daudt said he had thousands of dollars in credit card debt. Records also show he faced three lawsuits from debt collectors.

Martin said Daudt helped himself to a special deal to get out of debt.

"While ordinary Minnesotans deal with issues like these daily without help from powerful friends, Speaker of the House Kurt Daudt used his connection and influence to get out of his financial difficulties. If only Minnesotans had the same opportunity," Martin said.

Daudt said he received no special treatment from the law firm that helped him clean up his debt.
