Jordana's Blog: A Brand New Car!

A brand new car is a luxury. My dad never bought a new car, he always drove used.

"A better value," he'd say.

He's probably right. But I like new cars.

I still remember the first new car I ever bought. It was a 1990 Eagle Talon, fire-engine red with a black roof and a spoiler.

I loved that car. But times have changed since I was a single, young reporter with only my camera and tripod to schlep around New Jersey on a crime beat.

Now my cars are bigger -- like three rows, two DVD players and seven seats bigger. But she's a beauty; a gleaming-white (that won't last) Town & Country Minivan from Park Chrysler Jeep.

Full disclosure, I do ads for them, but I was buying cars from Park Jeep long before I ever worked at WCCO Radio.

My first was a lipstick-red Jeep Wrangler with a soft top … a divorce gift to myself, but now I'm back to the minivan.

Steve Otis, my sales guy at Park, likes to make fun of how I bring the vehicles back when I trade them in. Yes, my red one has a dent in the back and way too many empty juice boxes, but that's why G-d made minivans!

I almost don't want to let the kids inside the new white one as she's so pristine, but soon they'll stake their claim in the third row and goldfish will once again appear under the floor mats.

For now, I'm going to enjoy this new van smell as long as I can before the basketball-gear stench and glitter from theatre costumes takes over.

What was your first car?
