Jerry Kill Gets Roasted At Surprise Award Event

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Jerry Kill is gone, but certainly not forgotten in these parts.

The Minutemen presented him with a Man of the Year Award at a roast for him Friday.

WCCO's Mike Max was one of the roasters, alongside NewsRadio 830 WCCO's Dave Lee, Jim Carter, Joel Maturi, Casey O'Brien and Ron Stolski.

Kill says it was a fun but emotional day.

"I'm in shock. Dan O'Brien said there was going to be a few people here, and just kind of, you know, have a dinner or lunch [laughs]!" Kill said. "It's a lot of fun seeing people here in Minnesota that we love so much."

"Close personal friend" Sid Hartman put his arm around Kill during WCCO's interview.

"What a tribute," Hartman said.

Kill retired as head coach of the Gophers football team last fall due to health problems. Tracy Claeys, Kill's defensive coordinator, now leads the team.
