ITT Technical Institute Closes Campuses Nationwide

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – ITT Technical Institute has shut down all of its campuses nationwide – including those in Brooklyn Center and Eden Prairie – leaving over 40,000 students without a place to go.

In all, the school closed 130 campuses nationwide.

The Department of Education recently barred the school from enrolling new students who use federal aid. This came after a federal crackdown on the school's predatory practices.

The Illinois attorney general said the degrees students would get were under accredited, or even unaccredited, leaving students tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

Federal officials said students can apply to have their debt wiped away. They're also urging them to see if their credits will transfer to other community colleges.

An estimated 8,000 ITT employees are also out of a job.
