Irish, Polish Festivals Highlight Busy Twin Cities Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- What would a summer weekend in Minnesota be without a festival?

There were a couple of cultural festivals taking place around the Twin Cities this weekend that wrapped up on Sunday.

The nation's largest free Irish Festival is wrapping up in St. Paul Sunday night. Minnesota's Irish Fair is a yearly celebration of Irish heritage that has step dancing, a Celtic marketplace and lots of Irish food and drinks.

This year's celebration was especially important because it's the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, when Irish Republicans demanded an end to British rule in Ireland.

And over in Minneapolis, the Polish Festival wrapped up Sunday afternoon. This event celebrates Polish culture and heritage and also promotes Polish-American organizations.

People enjoyed plenty of Polish entertainment like music and dancing, some art exhibits and of course, lots of food.
