Inver Grove Heights Veteran Presented With Service Dog

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An Inver Grove Heights veteran is getting to know his new partner -- a four-legged helper named "Rex."

Ed Abrahamson is a Gulf War veteran who recently retired from the South St. Paul Police Department and the Dakota County SWAT Team.

Like many who have been to war, Abrahamson suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

After asking for help with his recovery, the non-profit Rebuilding Warriors provided him with a service dog.

"He's an unbelievable dog," Abrahamson said. "I've had dogs before and I feel like this is a really good bond. He's just a super dog, it melts my heart."

Rebuilding Warriors rescued Rex from an abusive situation and gave him special training.

Service dogs can help veterans with therapy for social anxiety, relationships and physical assistance.
