Patrol: 1 Hospitalized, 1 In Custody In Moorhead Officer-Involved Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say one person is hospitalized and another is in custody after an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 94 just east of Moorhead on Monday.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash at about 10:30 a.m. on I-94 just east of Moorhead. A state trooper arrived and found a vehicle that had lost control and hit a median barrier. A male and female were inside the vehicle.

Authorities say at some point during the incident, a trooper shot the woman, who fled into a nearby field and later located with a gunshot wound. The male passenger was taken into custody, and the female was taken to Essentia Hospital in Fargo. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The trooper who shot the woman was not injured and is on standard paid leave. The BCA is investigating the incident. The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Clay County Sheriff's Office and police departments from Moorhead, Barnesville and Dilworth.
