I-35W between Burnsville split and I-494 to close nightly through Wednesday
Major road closures are coming to Interstate 35W in the southern Twin Cities metro starting Monday night, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).
The roadway will be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in both directions between Interstate 494 in Bloomington and the I-35/35W/35E split in Burnsville.
MnDOT says the nightly closures are necessary so crews can install beams for the Burnsville Parkway bridge.
Several ramps will also shut down this week in Burnsville. Beginning 5 a.m. on Tuesday, the ramp from eastbound Highway 13 to southbound I-35W, the ramp from southbound I-35W to westbound Highway 13 and the ramp from southbound I-35W to County Road 42 will be closed.
The Highway 13 ramps will remain closed through September, while the County Road 42 ramp is expected to be closed through October.
Construction on I-35W between the Burnsville split and Cliff Road began in April and is expected to continue through fall 2026. Crews are working to resurface pavement, repair or replace several bridges, update guardrails and improve drainage, according to MnDOT. The project is estimated to cost $80 million.

There are several other Twin Cities area highways and interstates under construction this summer, including I-494, Interstate 94, Interstate 394 and more. MnDOT says it has 180 road and bridge projects, and 51 other infrastructure improvements planned this year, which is more than usual.
MnDOT encourages drivers to check 511mn.org for updates, avoid cutting through local roads and allow extra travel time during closures.
