Ice-Castle Replicas On Display At St. Paul Winter Carnival

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) - Once again, one of the most popular displays at the St. Paul Winter Carnival is not around this year.

But if you want to see ice castles of years past, you're in luck.

Replicas of 24 ice castles, built to scale, are on display at the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul. The builder makes sure they all look exactly the same as when their larger counterparts were built.

Despite the impressive display, St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation President and CEO Rosanne Bump says many people still ask when the next ice castle will be built.

"It is one of those things that has to do with timing, it has to do with finances, it has to do with volunteer power. So it really is kind of this mix of all things coming together to get an ice castle built," Bump said. "So it will be a couple years lead time by the time we decide to build to the time when it magically appears."

The St. Paul Winter Carnival continues through this Sunday.
