Ice Anglers Stranded On Lake Superior In Duluth, Rescued

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- On Tuesday morning in Duluth, 26 anglers were rescued from Lake Superior after they got stranded on a separated sheet of ice.

The Duluth Fire Department arrived at the scene a little after 11 a.m., and found the group off of the Beacon Pointe housing development near 2100 East Water Street. They had collapsed their fish houses and were standing on a large ice flow.

Crews used a rapid deployment craft and a motorized inflatable boat to rescue the fishermen. One person started walking towards Park Point but was rescued by St. Louis County Sheriff's airboat.

The anglers were all rescued within an hour. No one was hurt.
