DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa-based grocery store chain Hy-Vee Inc. has its eye on the Minneapolis market with plans to build several new stores each year over the next few years.

The West Des Moines-based chain says in a statement released Monday each new store will be about 90,000 square feet, cost between $14 million and $16 million to build, and employ about from 400 to 550 workers.

The company says it has one location under contract with several more projects in various stages of planning.

Hy-Vee has been in Minnesota since 1969 and has 17 stores in the state now.

Hy-Vee has 235 stores and 120 convenience stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The company says annual sales exceed $8 billion.
