Hwy 10 Closed For Short Time To Airlift Person Suffering From Hypothermia

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities needed to close down eastbound Highway 10 in Coon Rapids briefly Thursday morning after a person was found suffering from symptoms of hypothermia and exposure, according to police.

Coon Rapids police say they were called Thursday night for a possible suicidal male that had entered a park. A search involving a helicopter was then initiated, but the person was not located.

When the search resumed Thursday morning, the person was located along railroad tracks near Highway 10 and Hanson Boulevard. He was suffering from symptoms of exposure, hypothermia and self-inflicted wounds, authorities said.

Eastbound Highway 10 was closed for a short time while a helicopter landed to airlift the person, who was semi-conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

The road has since been reopened.
