Thousands 'Walk To End Hunger' At MOA

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Thousands of people gathered in Bloomington on Thanksgiving morning to help fight hunger in Minnesota.

The 9th Annual "Walk to End Hunger" was held at Mall of America.

The walk raises money to help give meals to families that need them.

About 5,000 people showed up for a 5K walk around the mall, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who says she is thankful that so many Minnesotans wanted to help.

"It's an incredible outpouring of support," Klobuchar said. "We've been through a divisive election season, and this is a moment where everyone can come together no matter who you voted for, what you think, this is the moment where everyone can say, 'You know what, there's things that are bigger than ourselves, there's a reason to get up in the morning and get out of bed on Thanksgiving.'"

Sen. Klobuchar says about one out of seven Minnesota families use food shelves.

Thursday's walk raised about $300,000 for hunger-relief agencies in the Twin Cities.
