Hundreds Climb Historic Water Tower For Highland Fest

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Hundreds of people made the trip to the top of the Historic Highland Park Water Tower on Sunday.

The 127-foot St. Paul landmark is only open to the public twice a year. This weekend, it was open in conjunction with Highland Fest.

Visitors climbed the 151 steps to the observation deck, where you can see great views of the Twin Cities.

"They're usually pretty surprised about the views from this location. How far they can see, how clear it is, how close Minneapolis looks from this tower is one of the big things," Lawrence Petrie said. "And of course you can see the new Vikings stadium going up."

The tower is still used to help supply water in the Highland area.  It will be open again the second weekend in October.
