Authorities responded to the accident at about 5:18 a.m. on the 1600 block County Highway A in New Richmond, Wis. When they got to the scene, a 2002 Mercedes Benz SUV being driven by a 19-year-old man was traveling southbound on the road when it lost control, entered the ditch and rolled over.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Taylor J. Casey, was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Another 19-year-old man inside the vehicle when it rolled over was not hurt, authorities said.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office said Casey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but the passenger was. It's the first traffic fatality in Wisconsin for the new year. Authorities said what led up to the crash is still under investigation.
