Hubbard Broadcasting Giving Newseum $5M To Support Programs

WASHINGTON (AP) — The family-owned Hubbard Broadcasting Inc. is giving the Newseum $5 million to support the Washington museum's programs about the five freedoms of the First Amendment.

The Newseum announced the $5 million pledge Thursday. The museum about journalism and the First Amendment has been struggling to cover its costs since it opened a new building in 2008.

Newseum officials have been working to increase fundraising to support the nonprofit museum. They say the museum's financial outlook has improved in the past year with increased attendance and revenue.

Hubbard is based in St. Paul, Minnesota. The company owns 14 TV stations and 48 radio stations, including WTOP Radio in Washington.

With the gift, Hubbard will become the Newseum's 16th founding partner. The museum will rename its concourse level the Hubbard Broadcasting Concourse.
