HS Football Player Progressing After Collapsing At Practice
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A high school football player who collapsed at practice Friday night is still in the hospital with signs showing that the player will recover.
Matthew Mohs, the headmaster at St. Thomas Academy, said the student is responsive, talking some and progressing beyond what the doctors had thought. The football team was winding down from a light practice and stretching when the player collapsed.
The team's doctor is also an assistant coach and immediately tended to the player. Chest compressions had to be started and a defibrillator was used to restart his heart.
Team officials said they feel "very positive" about the player's progression.
The name of the student and the cause of the collapse have not been released.
Saint Thomas Academy is an all-male, Roman Catholic, college preparatory military high school.
