House DFL Elects Thissen As Minority Leader

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — DFLers in the Minnesota House have elected Rep. Paul Thissen of Minneapolis as their new minority leader.

Thissen had been House speaker. But with Republicans winning control of the Minnesota House in Tuesday's elections, Democrats are returning to minority status in that chamber.

Thissen was House minority leader before becoming speaker in 2013. He thanked the House DFL caucus for re-electing him as its leader and said he's proud of his party's accomplishments over the past two years.

The GOP will hold the House majority when the Legislature convenes in January. The Minnesota Senate was not up for re-election this year and will remain in DFL control.

Republicans in the Minnesota House meet Friday to pick their leader.
