Twin Cities Under Tornado Watch Until 1 A.M.
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A hot and humid Sunday will be followed by evening severe storms.
Meteorologist Mike Augustyniak says Minnesotans are seeing the highest threat for severe weather this year, with the possibility of tornadoes, damaging winds and hail.
"After around 7 o'clock or so, all bets are off for outdoor activities," he said.
But first, the heat.
Sunday's highs look to be in the 90s, with dew points around 70.
The humidity will be oppressive, Augustyniak says.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for much of southern Minnesota.
After 2 p.m., strong storms will roll into western Minnesota. These bring a high chance of hail and damaging winds. There's also some chance of tornadoes forming.
Around 7 p.m., the storm clouds will move into the Twin Cities metro area. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for several central and southern Minnesota counties, including the Twin Cities metro area, until 1 a.m.
The system may linger overnight.
Following the stormy Sunday, the workweek looks to be warmer than average, with highs in the upper 80s.
