Ryder Cup Hospitality Suites Are Big Business At Hazeltine

CHASKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- Excitement is growing at one of the biggest golf events in the world, which is now just two days away.

It's hard to emphasize just how big this tournament is at Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska. Around 50,000 fans turn out each day, and they're experiencing a mid-sized city on a golf course -- all just for the practice rounds.

The tournament is a big deal for golf fans, and for Minnesota companies. All over the course are places where if you pay more, you get an even better experience.

For $1,800 a day, enjoy the Samuel Ryder tent. The champagne was flowing inside Wednesday morning. It's a way to get out of the crowds for a bit.

A lot of well-known Minnesota companies have corporate tents at the tournament. They range from $50,000 to well over $1 million.

The PGA and Mercedes have a particularly great spot. Their clients and friends can sit out in private bleachers and watch the action on the 16th hole.

"We've actually sold a record amount of hospitality for the Ryder Cup," the tournament's director of sales Larry Sinclair said. "Sixty percent of that was bought by Minnesota companies, so it says a lot about Minnesota -- a lot of big business here, and a lot of big business that will be conducted at the course."

The tournament between U.S. and European teams officially kicks off Friday.
