Hollins, Mathieu Earn Big Ten Honors For Gophers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Big Ten Conference handed out its season honors on Monday with the league's postseason tournament a few days away, and a pair of Gophers were recognized.

Junior guards Andre Hollins and DeAndre Mathieu were both named to the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention team. Hollins leads Minnesota in scoring at 14.6 points per game, which ranks 12th in the Big Ten. He is also second in the conference in free-throw percentage at nearly 84 percent. He has scored in double figures in 23 games this season and is 19th on Minnesota's all-time scoring list with 1,242 points.

Hollins was an All-Big Ten Third team pick last season.

Mathieu is in his first season with the Gophers and leads the team in assists with about 4.4 per game. That's fourth in the league, and he's sixth in the conference with about 1.6 steals per game. Mathieu is the team's second-leading scorer at 11.9 points per game.

Minnesota (19-12) will face Penn State in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Indianapolis, Ind.
