Man Pleads Guilty To Farmhouse Double Murder

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man accused of murdering a couple inside their southwest Minnesota farmhouse told the judge he blacked out and did not remember anything.

Derek Hexum pleaded guilty to killing and robbing Jim and Cathy Hively in Balaton last April.

Investigators say Hexum killed the couple so he and two friends could steal their guns, a camera and a car. One of them returned and set the home on fire.

Deputies caught the men after one of them was pulled over while driving without a license. The stolen guns were found in the trunk.

Kyle Wesselink and Theodore Como have also pleaded guilty to their roles in the case.
