Officials: Hennepin County Doubles Previous Absentee Ballot Record
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – According to election officials, Hennepin County has more than doubled the previous record of 82,000 accepted absentee ballots.
Officials said as of 4 p.m. Saturday, 168,000 absentee ballots have been received and accepted of the 194,000 issued.
Officials say about 48,000 of those ballots are from Minneapolis voters. Suburbs with at least 10,000 ballots cast include Bloomington, Plymouth and Edina, with 13,000, 12,000 and 11,000, respectively. Minnetonka is also expected to exceed 10,000 on Saturday.
By 9:30 a.m. Saturday, 156,000 were accepted. Officials say about seven percent of those 156,000 are voters who submitted an Election Day registration. That means at least 144,000 registered voters in Hennepin County have cast their ballots ahead of the elections.
For those voting on Election Day, polls across Minnesota open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
