Heavily Favored Tom Emmer Re-Elected In 6th District

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer will serve a second term in Minnesota's 6th District, the Associated Press reports.

Emmer soundly defeated Democratic candidate David Snyder.

Emmer succeeded former Rep. Michelle Bachmann in the 6th District in 2014 and was heavily favored heading into the election. He also lost a narrow gubernatorial race to Gov. Mark Dayton in 2010.

Snyder, who beat Tom Helland in the primary with the DFL's endorsement, is an iron worker and Army veteran.

The largely conservative 6th District encompasses St. Cloud and stretches east.
