Health Officials Monitoring Whooping Cough Outbreak In SE Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Officials with the Minnesota Department of Health have confirmed that there is an outbreak of whooping cough in southeastern Minnesota.
Officials say there have been 36 confirmed cases of whooping cough in Olmsted County in the last six weeks, specifically the Rochester area.
The cases have been reported predominantly in schools and have forced the cancellation of high school hockey games and practices.
Health department officials say as of Monday, Olmsted County has a total of 76 confirmed, probable and suspected cases of whooping cough.
Of those, 36 have happened since Nov. 1, 2015. Other parts of the state area also experiencing increased activity.
